I am in love with this stanza from Wallace Stevens' "Six Significant Landscapes". I want to write a female character like this (but not in my first fiction project, because I have a different idea):
The night is of the color
Of a woman's arm:
Night, the female,
Obscure,
Fragrant and supple,
Conceals herself.
A pool shines,
Like a bracelet
Shaken in a dance.
Such poetry should be written about me. Obviously.
As for my next male character (but not for my first fiction project once again, because I have a really specific idea for that), I've always been inspired by these lines from Iron & Wine's "Each Coming Night":
Will you say to them when I'm gone away:
"I loved your son for his sturdy arms.
We both learned to cradle then live without."
Awww.
